Tonight my partner played all the cards in her "hand" & was not allowed to pick up her "knee" because we had not made a canasta. What are you supposed to do about not having any cards to play?

DeleteOnly one in a team has to make a book in order for both to pick up your knee. Each has to use all the cards in your hand so you can pick up your foot!
DeletePlayers should never allow themselves to get to that point and should always have at least one card in their hand before picking up the knee. If the player puts down their last card before getting into their knee, then the last card is picked up and put back into that player's hand.
DeleteSorry -- my response should have mentioned that how to handle a player's situation of running out of cards while playing the hand only applies when the team's first canasta has not been made.
DeleteGood job Nancy in answering questions.
DeleteAfter the first canasta is made. The knee can only be picked up when it is your turn to play and you have drawn two cards or picked up the discard pile first.
ReplyDeleteThough if your on the watercraft on your way to your vacation, a pleasant long session of La Belle Lucie might be more suited.

Can you meld black threes if you pick up discard pile late in the game? Can partner play your foot?
ReplyDeleteNo to both questions.
DeleteYou are correct.

ReplyDeleteI dont understand A friend made up her own rules and taught us this game now we are trying to learn the real way --- what do you mean when you say the player "knocks" Please please email me at cookiegramma3@gmail.com Terri thx
ReplyDeleteI want to start a group where I live now. Previously, I played with folks who only picked up 5 cards from the discard pile, not the entire pile. I am seeing on this thread and one other that the entire pile is to be picked up. Do all agree? Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI have been asked, "If you are able to make an additional 7, 5 or wild book, can you bury cards in this book. I said No.
ReplyDeletein scoring once the melds are created are they scored twice once at the melds and once as individual points at the end of a hand for total score of that hand?
ReplyDeleteAll canastas are scored first. Then all cards that have been played for their individual point value. All cards not played count against you.
